Greetings,

Mission is local—it belongs in the local church! Our passion as a Foursquare family is to take the whole gospel to the whole world.  In order to fulfill that goal, everything we do must align with this mission. How can our entire movement align itself to support this premise? We believe the answer may be found in two words, renewal and reform.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, This word of promise from our Lord, given to His Church, stirs us to renewed faith and to the assurance that His purposes will be fulfilled. This declaration not only builds our hope, but it calls us to a renewed sense of destiny and obedience.

Titus 3:4-6

Those words of guidance and wisdom were sent from the apostle Paul to a young pastor, but they are still applicable to the church today. Paul spoke of renewal by the Holy Spirit and a “renewed sense of destiny and obedience.”

We are writing today with an increased awareness that renewal and reform are ongoing works of the Holy Spirit. The voice of the Spirit is moving us to dynamic relevance in this culturally diverse world.

This communication is an invitation to engage in a national conversation about key elements that will inspire and accelerate renewal and reform within our Foursquare movement.  Please join our leadership team and others this summer and fall for our Town Hall Meetings (dates and locations enclosed).

Steps taken so far: A presidential task force (PTF) was commissioned by the board of directors to begin research and dialog about some of the pressing issues we face.  At the cabinet meetings in March, rich discussions took place. (Please visit foursquare.org/business and click on “overview” for more information). Enclosed is the president’s letter for your review.

ASSUMPTIONS FOR RENEWAL:

1. We must return to a local, church-centric movement for training leaders, planting churches and sending missionaries.
2. We must create and allow a culture of entrepreneurial and creative leadership.
3. We must remove obstacles that hinder the full participation or partnership of those in our movement.
4. We must “right-size” responsibility, resource and authority across the movement.
5. We must empower and strengthen district offices to facilitate networking, communication and relationships within our movement.
6. We must continue to streamline the central office and narrow its focus to serve the mission of the Foursquare movement.
7. We must accelerate our global mission and focus, taking advantage of a worldwide open door for evangelism.
8. We must prioritize the evangelization of immigrant people groups within the United States.
9. We must bring clarity of mission, vision, identity and purpose to The U.S. Foursquare Church.
10. We must foster an environment that is conducive to spiritual renewal, honoring the Holy Spirit and allowing Him to lead us.

Several synonyms of “reform” clearly echo defined biblical values—words such as, renew, redeem and rebuild. Those words lead us to additional descriptive terms: revive, refresh, breathe new life into. We are contending for Spirit-led renewal, renewal that breathes new life into our future; renewal that confounds the forces of hell that would halt, kill and stop the move of the Church in our world.

Foursquare Connection 2013 will include a significant update of our progress, and we will have time for family conversation in our main sessions. In addition, we are planning a blog site for Q & A. We’ll also inform you when the blog site is up and ready.  In the near future, we’ll be sending the following document:  “Overview of Town Hall Meetings.” We’re happy to announce that there will be live streaming online from two of the locations.

We have high expectations of what God will do as we   meet with you in your district! Please review the dates and locations of the Town Hall Meetings and SAVE THE DATE on your calendar now.  Your presence and involvement will help us to stay on target and in tune with the work of the Holy Spirit in our Foursquare family.  We’ll see you at the meeting!
